| Aviation Cadet Academy is an interactive boot camp for kids ages 13 to 18 on July 14-18. The camp is held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the CAF Airpower Museum. Aviation Cadet Academy (ACA) is broken into five phases: Dynamics of Flight, Desert Survival, Flight History, Museum Research and Air Combat Flight Stimulation. The cadets will also take three field trips to the National Weather Service Center, Midland International Airport Traffic Control and Odessa ECISD's Rope Course. AIRSHO 2008 Kick Off Press Conference
Midland, Texas (September 8, 2008) — Representatives from the FINA-CAF AIRSHO® 2008, the Best Warbird Show in America, will host a press conference at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, in the Commemorative Air Force hangar to kick off the annual airshow.
The FINA-CAF AIRSHO 2008 is a weekend-long celebration of American military aviation featuring the most extensive collection of flying Warbirds, modern military and daring aerobatic flights the whole family will enjoy Sept. 19 through 21, 2008. More than 100 warbirds will be on display.
Commemorative Air Force President Stephan C. Brown and AIRSHO Chairman Bill Coombes will detail upcoming highlights of the FINA-CAF AIRSHO® 2008 and discuss potential media opportunities available throughout the coming week. Special guests at the press conference will include Jan Collmer, pilot of the FINA EXTRA 300L and Kyle McKeen, President and CEO of Alon Brands.
The entertainment begins on Friday, Sept. 19 at 8:00 pm, with a live performance by country music star Aaron Tippin. Families will enjoy watching the Jet Powered School Bus race along the runway at speeds topping 300 miles per hour. With more than 42,000 horsepower the school bus will light up the early evening prior to Aaron Tippin’s performance. After the concert look to the sky for a night AIRSHO performance by Matt Younkin in his graceful Twin Beech 18!
Jan Collmer in his FINA EXTRA 300L officially opens AIRSHO® at noon on Saturday, Sept. 20. Jan will put his aircraft though a breathtaking display of maneuvers, including awe-inspiring torque rolls and tail slides.
The CAF will recreate historic battles of World War II and Vietnam using its collection
of rare classic warbirds. The show will include aerial dogfights, simulated bomb explosions that rock the ground and a recreation of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor with the world-renowned Tora, Tora, Tora pilots.
AIRSHO pairs some of World War II’s legendary aircraft with today’s most versatile jets in the Air Force Heritage Flight. The A-10 West Coast Demo Team will demonstrate precision military aerial maneuvers, with strafing and bombing runs.

Discount tickets for adults on Friday, Saturday or Sunday are available for $20. Discount tickets for children ages 6 to 12 are $8 for Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Children age 5 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $25 adults and $10 for children ages 6 to 12. Gates open at 7:30 a.m.
Collecting, restoring and flying warbirds for more than half a century, the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) ranks as one of the largest private air forces in the world. The CAF is dedicated to Honoring American Military Aviation through flight, exhibition and remembrance with a flying museum of classic military aircraft.
A non-profit educational association, the CAF has approximately 9,000 members and a fleet of almost 160 airplanes representing more than 60 different types – including planes from several foreign countries and military conflicts since World War II.
